I sat at the desk in my bedroom, the memo about the field trip in front of me, and my textbook detailing the different types of demons and devils open to one side. Professor Victorus had set us an essay for tomorrow morning—a full write-up on the different Demon Lords and their powers. It was both fascinating and scary.

Especially since I had encountered Adonides in real life. Or in “real dreams”. Whatever.

The field trip was set to take place at the end of the month, my second month of living in Pride Spire, and I couldn’t fucking wait to see what that would bring. Sarcasm intended.

I pressed a hand over my black eye and tried to focus my magic into my fingertips, hoping to heal the wound, but nothing happened. Not that it was a good idea to heal it. It was my experience that healing the wound would only incite the other assholes in the first and second years to beat my ass again. That was the reason I hadn’t gone to the Healer’s Ward on campus.

At least if I kept the black eye, they’d wait a while before they gave me another one. I’d gotten it after they’d rigged a back of books in front of my bedroom door. I’d come out and gotten hit in the face by it.

Hilarious for them. Purple Hair Bitch Ass Mother Fucker—upgraded from her previous name, Purple Hair—had nearly wet herself laughing down the hallway.

Stop it. There are more important things to focus on.

The longer I spent here, the more my thirst increased for knowledge about who I was, why I had the “seven sins” or the potential to be possessed of the “seven virtues” and fight demons, and what had happened to my parents and Marnie.

Thinking her name sent a pang through my chest, and I rubbed it. Physical wounds, I’d come to learn, didn’t hurt nearly as much as emotional ones.

I brought the memo closer and studied it.

Field Trip to the First Seal

All first-year students will be attending the field trip to the First Seal at the end of October. Tests on the field trip will include physical, mental and emotional. Please ensure that you bring the following items along on the trip:

Notebooks

Your Demonic History textbook

Stationery

The athame provided at the start of the year
